CURIOSITIES AND STORIES HIDDEN
BEHIND OUR SHOP WINDOWS
Did you know that Santa Eulalia is one of the few stores in Spain that still has its own workshop for bespoke tailoring and shirt-making?
Our bespoke tailoring and shirt-making workshop for men is regarded as one of the most prestigious and time-honoured in the country. Inside, the hum of the sewing machines is barely audible, as most of the work is carried out by hand using traditional methods. We view tailoring as an art form, with each suit representing the result of over 42 hours of work by skilled craftsmen.
Did you know that in 1947 Santa Eulalia launched its first Eau de Cologne, expanding its creative vision into the world of perfumery?
It was a huge success with its customers, who were captivated by its fresh and delicate scent.
Decades later, in 2014, Santa Eulalia relaunched its fragrance range, expanding the collection to 14 fragrances and selling them through prestigious perfumeries around the world.
Did you know that the owners of Santa Eulalia collect fashion photographs by renowned photographers such as William Klein, Frank Horvat and Horst P. Horst?
Many of these works can be found in various corners of the store, contributing to its unique atmosphere.
The only picture that does not belong to the world of fashion is the famous In Voluptas Mors, by the photographer Philippe Halsman, taken with Salvador Dalí in 1951. The image shows Dalí posing alongside a tableau vivant formed by seven nude models who, with their bodies intertwined, form the silhouette of a skull.
Did you know that the shop windows, doors and imposing brass handles in the current store come from the former boutique at 60 Passeig de Gràcia?
In 2009, the building at 93 Passeig de Gràcia, where Santa Eulalia is now located, underwent a complete refurbishment in which the original façade was preserved. The new store was designed by New York architect William Sofield, who has also worked on projects for brands such as Tom Ford, Bottega Veneta and Saint Laurent, amongst others.
«From the very beginning, we were clear that we wanted to salvage many elements from our previous shops and incorporate them into the current one to preserve its character and showcase our long history. It was an excellent opportunity to develop a new shop concept that looks to the future, yet remains grounded in our roots», says Luis Sans, the current owner of Santa Eulalia.
