Viva MEXICABA! The new creation by Louboutin

The new creation by Christian Louboutin, the founder and designer of the renowned shoe firm, has surrendered to the diversity and color of mexican arts & crafts. Viva MEXICABA! The most recent bag and accessory collection, has arrived to our store, filling it with color and artisanal spirit.

Mexico is the country were this new tote bag is born, a result of the collaboration with Taller Maya, Mexican project part of the Haciendas del Mundo Maya Foundation (FHMM), dedicated to the preservation of traditional and local craft. As part of their mission, this organization works towards the support of authentic art, enabling the development of the talent and creativity of these expert hands, and assuring the handover of knowledge and the artisanal secrets from one generation to the other, making sure it makes it through the future, in a society in which culture and Mayan tradition are at risk of disappearing.

"I've always had a global outlook. Working with the most wonderful artisans from all over the world is completely natural for me” says designer Christian Louboutin. For FHMM this project has been a complete challenge and the most important one since they started working with the artisan community in 2002.

In order to produce this collection, over 100 Mexican artisan women have collaborated, working for over four months, coming up with a product formed of "unique pieces with history and great cultural value" and an artisanal work that redefines luxury in a special way, making a difference.

The MEXICABA tote is made of 100% handwoven cotton textile, with vivid colors and beautiful traditional Mayan embroidery; handles are adorned with bone and wooden beads handpainted with traditional motifs. Another Mexican tradition is portrayed inside the Mexicaba bags, in the designer's words, “I LOVE the lining of the new bag! The Day of the Dead sugar skulls turned into happy ghosts that keep an eye on your belongings.”

MEXICABA is more than an objet d'art, as if this were not enough, ten percent of the profit obtained from the sales of each one of these bags will have a direct and positive social impact on this community of Mayan artisans. Each sale represents a direct income for the women that have worked as creators of this project, whom in the end, are the hands that have given life to these jewels.
