After repeated requests by Barcelona’s citizens, Isabel II’s government agrees to pull down the city’s walls.

Cristóbal Balenciaga opens a store in San Sebastian.

Luis Sans Marcet, the second generation, takes over the reins of the company.

1936
Upon the outbreak of the Civil War, the company is collectivised by the Second Republic, and the sense of an haute couture company in the new republican society is questioned.
1926
Santa Eulalia holds its first haute couture fashion show, the pioneers in Spain. Pedro Formosa, the owner’s brother-in-law, is at the helm of the design team. Until his death in 1970, his talent and creativity will distinguish the company’s most important haute couture.
